#newpaper in the next issue of "Neural Networks" !

"A robust event-driven approach to always-on object recognition"

by @antoine_grimaldi , Victor Boutin, Sio-Hoi Ieng, Ryad Benosman and myself - available #opensource at laurentperrinet.github.io/publ

Main contributions:

  • Builds an adaptive, back to back event-based #neuromorphic pattern recognition architecture, inspired by neuroscience and capable of always-on decision, that is, that the decision can be taken it can be needed - just like most living systems!

SPIKING NEURAL NETWORKS!

" #Supercomputer that simulates entire #human #brain will switch on in #2024

A #neuromorphic supercomputer called #DeepSouth will be capable of 228 trillion synaptic operations per second, which is on par with the estimated number of operations in the human brain"

New Scientist · Supercomputer that simulates entire human brain will switch on in 2024Von James Woodford

Yesterday we finished a fantastic 3-day workshop with our friends from Ottawa. This was the 2023 annual meeting of the Max Planck - uOttawa Centre for Extreme and Quantum Photonics, at the @MPI_ScienceOfLight .

We heard about #topological #photonics, #metasurfaces, #entanglement, #ultrafast laser pulses, solar #lasers, #neuromorphic computing, #Artificialntelligence for optics and many more exciting topics at the cutting edge of photonics.

Really interesting modelling work building short-term #plasticity into #neural #networks by Hector Garcia Rodriguez, Qinghai Guo and Timoleon Moraitis.

They show better performance in both supervised and RL tasks + the potential for energy savings on #neuromorphic chips!

I wish I had seen this paper before writing my review on brain mechanisms of domain-general cognition in ANNs as this would have made a great addition (arxiv.org/abs/2303.13651).

:TipHat: Bonjour and have a happy #JoinMastodonDay!

I didn't do a proper #introduction on this instance, so here it is 🥁 :

I'm a #ComputationalNeuroscience 🧠 researcher trying to understand 🤔 how (if?) our #perception reflects reality.

My focus is mainly on #time to understand the role of #spikes, the universal currency in neural information processing...

👉 👉 we hope to introduce novel #neuromorphic tools based on 🌈 #sparsecoding #prediction #homeostasis to be more :success: and less 🔋-hungry.

More than any other metaverse, I live in the #fediverse. I love 😍 art. #Tesla was a tad weird, but what a scientist!
